Healthy Blue is a managed care organization (MCO) that provides Nebraska Medicaid benefits for eligible kids and adults. For over 80 years, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska has been helping people get access to great health care benefits. And now with Healthy Blue, Medicaid members in Nebraska can get Blue, too.

Medicaid helps low-income children, adults and families get health care coverage. And with Medicaid expansion in Nebraska, more adults ages 19 to 64 now qualify. Learn more about Medicaid eligibility

Once you are approved for Medicaid, there are several ways to choose Healthy Blue as your MCO:

  • Visit the Heritage Health website.
  • Call 888-255-2605 (TTY 711). Choice Counselors are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central time.
  • Complete and mail the Health Plan Change Form found in your welcome packet from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Your primary care provider (PCP)

Yes, if your primary care provider (PCP) is part of the Healthy Blue plan. If your PCP is not in our plan, we can help you select a new one. You can also choose or change your PCP online by logging in to your account.

You can change your PCP at any time. To find a doctor in your area, use our Find a Doctor search tool. Then, log in to your online account to change your PCP. You can also call Healthy Blue Member Services at 833-388-1405 (TTY 711) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time, and we can help you.

If you change your PCP, we will send you an updated member ID card. It may take a few days for you to receive your card in the mail, but the change will start right away.

You may see any doctor in our plan without a referral. However, some doctors may request a referral from your PCP. We will still cover medically necessary services provided by a plan provider without a referral.

Your ID card

If you go to the doctor’s office without your member ID card, you can tell them you are with Healthy Blue. The doctor’s office will call us to verify your information. You can also view your ID card with the Healthy Blue mobile app. Do your best to bring your card with you to every appointment.

If your ID card is lost or stolen, call us right away at 833-388-1405 (TTY 711) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time. We will send you a new card. You can also print a copy of your ID card from your online account.
